Have You Experienced Consumer Fraud?
We are consumer protection attorneys and it is our job to represent individuals in Consumer Fraud cases. These cases arise when a company lies, makes misrepresentations or fails to state important elements of good services credit to a customer. Consumer fraud can happen in many areas in a variety of ways, and unfortunately we have heard a lot about these cases on the news, facebook or twitter.
Cantor & Burger is a proud member of the Better Business Bureau, and organization that tracks down and stops consumer fraud. We are different in that we can’t really stop consumer fraud when it’s happening like a state Attorney General or the Better Business Bureau, but we can file lawsuits against companies for consumer fraud they have done in the past and stop them from continuing. We are able to file consumer lawsuits both individually and on a class action basis.
Acting as consumer protection attorneys we represented a large group of individuals against the Ackerman car dealership company when they sold a “protection plan” for automobiles. They touted this protection plan as “Undersealant and Bodysealant” to prevent rust and weathering on vehicles and charged $600.00 for it. However, we had evidence from their workers that they never even put it on. We conducted extensive discovery and litigated this case for a long time. We settled the claim on behalf of about 30 Plaintiffs. The evidence in that case was overwhelming that Ackerman didn’t apply the under coating and knew they didn’t at the time. Even when they did put it on it was about $20 worth of materials that they sold for $600.00. So, be careful when purchasing an add-on from a car dealership.
We are currently representing former students of Sanford Brown College in St. Louis. Sanford Brown is a for profit college owned by a Career Education Corporation that misrepresents how good the school is, the salaries you can earn when completing programs, accreditation, costs and success and placement of graduates to prospective students. Their admissions personnel are driven to use high pressure sales tactics to get as many people in the doors as they can to take classes at Sanford Brown. These students enroll and take large government backed student loans out to complete the programs. Once the programs are complete, most students cannot find the types of jobs at the salaries that were promised them and they have large student loans to pay back. We hope to end these practices and get recovery for the students and the United States government who holds the student loans. We will keep you apprised of the success of these cases.
